Straying from the Path

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.  Isaiah 53:6

I think all of us can honestly say at times in our life we have strayed.  We are all human and have moments of weakness. I know I do. I have chosen the things of the world over the Lord.  This is called our “fleshly” nature and even as Christians, we still at times want to choose the desires of the world instead of Christ.

In every decision we make, every word we say and every action we perform, we choose whether to follow the Spirit living in us or the fleshly nature that is constantly bombarding us from the outside world. This is a daily battle.

We get distracted by “shiny” things.  This does not literally mean things that are glittery or fancy although they could be.  Like the above verse from Isaiah tells us, we leave God’s path to follow our own. I have found when I do this, it has often resulted in trouble in my life.

As a result of our fleshy nature and actions we need Jesus and His forgiveness.  We need Him everyday to guide us to follow the Spirit instead of the flesh.  We should pray about this and when we ask Him to lead, we should be ready to follow!

We are so blessed because forgiveness is ours through God’s unconditional love of giving us His Son to die for us and taking all of our sins away.  What could be better than that amazing gift?  It is now up to us, with God’s guidance to stay on the path of his ways.  Thanks be to God!
