Fear Not, Little Flock

Bleat and baa can almost be synonymous.  It is a sound coming from a sheep.  They baa to make their location known to other sheep, or a lamb will baa to find its mother.  A shepherd’s job is to guard the flock from predators and keep them together until getting to market or for shearing time.  More often in Biblical times, the shepherd, might have also milked the sheep and made cheese from the milk. I’m in awe of the protector role.  Some flocks can include 1,000 sheep and yes, there are dogs that can help with the “herding” too, but the shepherd is watching over all of them.

When you think about Jesus being called the “Good Shepherd” isn’t that a comforting name? I may go about my day “bleating” and “baa-ing” making my location obvious or my distresses known, but am I seeking my Shepherd?  He loves me unconditionally and watches over me always. Luke 12: 29-32 “What I’m trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don’t be afraid of missing out. You’re my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself. “

If I stop bleating and baa-ing and turn my attention to the reality of God and thanking Him for providing for me, I will find myself in the comfort and closeness of The Shepherd.  My fears will subside and my sense of belonging to the flock of believers will magnify my trust and faith.  Fear NOT, for your Shepherd is ever watchful.  Nestle in and know that as a sheep herder is attentive to each sheep in his flock, your dear Savior has NEVER taken His eyes off of you. Baa baa, seek. Be thankful you are His and in His flock.
