In Christ Alone

Yesterday we celebrated the Festival of the Reformation.  Once again we looked at Martin Luther’s message to the church of his day and to us.   We heard the reassurance that we are saved in “Christ Alone.”    Nothing that we do or say can earn the forgiveness we need.   Only through the blood of Jesus can we be saved.   It’s not a new message to us, but it bears repeating often.  We need to be reminded.

In the final stanza, the lyrics proclaim the confidence we have “in Christ alone.”  It’s a “shout it from the rooftops” proclamation; there is no room for doubt.

“No guilt in life no fear in death –
This is the pow’r of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home –
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll Stand.”*

Have no fear my friend.  His unconditional love allows us to stand in the power of Christ alone!
