Thanks

As we begin this month of November, I’d like to share with you a stanza from this Thanksgiving poem by Sarah M. Menkin. She wisely urges us to give thanks not only in times of bounty, but at all times

“In bounty – or with just enough,
if days are bright or times are tough,
in brilliant sunshine or in rain,
in happiness or crushing pain …
let us give thanks!”*

To me, that was a poignant reminder to thank my Lord at all times. I’m afraid that I am much more likely to thank him for a bountiful feast than those times when it was a challenge to put food on the table all week. Yes, Lord I’m grateful for happy times with family and grandchildren, but I don’t recall expressing my thanks when being rushed to the hospital in pain. Yet, in each and every time of my life God walked with me, he guided me through tough times, and for that I do give thanks.

As Paul says to the Thessalonians, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Welcome his unconditional love for you and give him thanks.
