Polishing My Armor

My sister-in-law and her husband have a magnificent knight’s armor standing in their living room.  Knowing her so well, I’m certain it is polished to a bright sheen, regularly. Of course, a valued knight wore his protective covering to keep himself safe as he battled for his king/queen. How they managed to walk in the armor, or mount their horses for ensuing battles while garbed in such heavy protection is unfathomable to me.

In Ephesians 6, scripture states: …put on the full armor of God…belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit.

Why in this world would we need all this armor?  Because Satan has power on this earth and he comes to deceive, lie, destroy and steal. Just as the knights of medieval times prepared themselves to protect their king, we need to do likewise.  By protecting ourselves with God’s tools, we are honoring Him and acknowledging His unconditional love for us. We can arm ourselves to banish Satan from our lives and cast him away from tormenting us.  Arming yourself with the necessary tools and armor means you are prepared.  God is Ruler of all. Ensconce yourselves with TRUTH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, FAITH, SALVATION, and the HOLY SPIRIT! Armor on! Polishing your armor will be necessary.  Stay in His Word. Seek Him. Praise Him and surround yourself with a community of believers. We’re in the Lord’s Army (remember that Sunday School song? A good one, for certain) Be prepared!
