I really enjoy baking and then sharing my homemade treats with friends and family. Lots of love goes into each recipe and the goodies and treats are usually whipped together while I am singing, haha! That’s conjuring up a picture in my mind of flour floating in the air as I harmonize with a country hit or Christian Rock song or even some of my husband’s favorite old doo wop tunes. So important is the preparation. I gather all the necessary tools of baking, the delicious ingredients and the counter-space for the creating and enjoyment to begin.
Now prepare the way, not for Easter, but rather for the Advent season. It is here and we should begin our preparations for the celebration of the coming or our Lord. It is easy for the commercial-ness of the season to overwhelm us with its preparations for Thanksgiving, family, food, traveling, Christmas, decorations, and gifts. However, most important is the preparation we invest in our hearts and minds for the coming celebration of the birth of Christ.
The four Sundays of Advent should be a time of reflection in us and our eager anticipation of Jesus’s birth. Mary was, I’m certain, most anxious for the birth. Not only was she carrying the Child of God, but she was human and eight months into the pregnancy. Let this Holy Child arrive soon. His mother and the world await Him. Be mindful this season of Advent that we must prepare for our Lord to come, to live among us and die for our sins. Reflect on His hallowed birth, life and death. How blessed are we to have Jesus, our Savior, love us unconditionally! Be prepared. Be eager this Advent Season. The celebration of His birth is soon.
