Does Advent Mean “Hurry Up?”

According to Google, advent means:  the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. As Christians enter the season of ADVENT, the anticipation of the celebration of the birth of the Lord is a reflective time.

The prophets of ancient times had been predicting His birth.  The arrival of a Messiah was a long-awaited event. With no “breaking news” broadcasts, or no alert signal on your digital watch, or “beep” on your electronic device, how were those of that time to know His time had come?

Can you imagine seeing a star like you had never seen before? Would you be inclined to follow it?  Would your first suspicion be, “Gee, I bet the Messiah has arrived!”?  How blessed are we to know the outcome of Christ’s arrival in human form, as the child of Mary!  We have this period of time leading up to Christmas, to reflect on the ancient prophets’ predictions.  Read and reread the Gospel of Matthew, Luke and a slightly different reflection from John, as they share details of the arrival and the unfolding of God’s Word coming to life in the birth of a baby in Bethlehem.

Allow yourself to revisit the advent of our Lord.  Reflect on the perfect plan foretold and brought to fruition. The time is coming near, rejoice and be glad in it! You are loved unconditionally.
