We Have Heard Angels!

The holy baby is born in Bethlehem.  Oh yes, we know.  We have heard the angels proclaim his birth.  “Don’t be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people.  This very day in David’s town our Savior was born – Christ the Lord!  And this is what will prove it to you; you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”  Luke 2:10-12

We have heard the angels sing.  “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!”  Luke 2:14

We too sing the message in “Angels We Have Heard on High,” a favorite French carol, translated by H. F. Hemy in 1864.

“Come to Bethlehem and see
him whose birth the angels sing;
come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn king.”

We have heard angels proclaim the wondrous birth of a Savior.  As incredible as it seems, this is the Savior who loves me, who loves you, who loves all of us unconditionally.

I invite you to listen to the angelic voices of the boys in the English vocal group, Libera, as they sing this hymn.  This rendition was sung in their concert in Ireland in 2013.

Gloria in excelsis Deo!
