Have you adjusted to Daylight Saving Time yet? It’s a challenge. I’ve always been inclined to awaken when sunlight comes through the window, regardless of the numerals on my clock. It works pretty well in retirement.
Daylight is a marvelous experience. Darkness fades away and a new day begins. At that hour of the morning the new day is still full of hope and possibilities. The concerns of the day have not yet crept in. I’m content to just open my eyes, roll over and say, “Good Morning, Jesus.”
Songs have been written to share this thought. One that comes to mind is “Morning Has Broken” by Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965). I’m particularly drawn to the third verse.
“Mine is the sunlight!
Mine is the morning,
born of the one light Eden saw play!
Praise with elation,
praise every morning,
God’s re-creation of the new day!”
Each new morning dawns for us, like God’s new morning in the Garden of Eden. What a beautiful gift. Our God in his unconditional love knew that we would need a night for rest, and then a dawn to reawaken us to the new day.
Perhaps you’ll enjoy this version of the hymn “Morning Has Broken” sung by Orla Fallon…
