Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” This is one of my favorite verses. (During my two pregnancies, I assigned two favorite scriptures to my unborn babies. This verse was ascribed by me to my youngest son.)
We seem to live in an area where there are an enormous number of crows. Their flapping and cawing seem to go on endlessly. From my view of their antics, I sometimes see the mockingbirds fly after them, possibly calling out, “Knock it off!” LOL Reality is the crows probably came to close to the mockingbirds’ nests. Then there are the hawks who glide and soar “eyeing” their prey before the quick descent to capture. When we visited Alaska, the eagles were everywhere and soaring, seemingly effortlessly, as they are such majestic birds of the sky.
Do you see yourself flapping relentlessly to get through your day? Tiring yourself out with the effort it takes to move and function. Flapping and pushing to get your to-do list done, your job for the day completed, aren’t you exhausted? So many of us think our journey through each day is our OWN. Why not ask God to be with you? He is always there, loving you unconditionally. Your flapping could take on the attributes of soaring, with God as your pilot. Sit back and be His “wing man,” and feel the air currents and “thermals” of His Way, lifting you and allowing you to “soar” through your obligations of the day. Isaiah tells us by hoping in the Lord, our strength will be renewed, we will not grow weary. He uses the analogy of the eagle soaring to provide a visual of you being lifted by God when you lean on Him. You will soar to new heights by trusting the Lord with your “flight plan.”
