Tropical fish in a saltwater aquarium put up defenses at night. Some hide in shells, some have spines, some burrow in the gravel. Often, our faith does a similar thing – going quickly from certainty to uncertainty. It is important to keep telling ourselves what Paul told his congregation in Corinth: that we are the temple of God and His Spirit abides in us. We have within us a “certificate of deposit”, the promise of the hope that is in us, the resurrected life that awaits us.
This powerful faith is transplanted into us by Christ. We are blessed with “anti-rejection medicine” that is not the perfect panacea for the world’s ills but keeps us from any separation or disregard from our gracious God. Interruptions and distractions vex us, even when attempting to pray. That doesn’t mean we have failed. Once the Holy Spirit has been imparted unto us, it is never taken away. Our Lord will be our defense system against the mortal enemy. Have “fishy faith’ in the best meaning possible – carefree, swimming in the safety of God’s aquarium. His love is unconditional.
