Seriously, What Can I Do?

If you believe you were made in God’s image, if you believe you are a child of God, if you know Jesus died for you and you believe in His unconditional love for you…what can you do?

I am certainly not a Biblical scholar, but when reading the Bible, I can’t help but note that when Jesus was on earth and performing miracles, at times, the recipient had things to do for the completion of the miracle.  Peter was told, (though quite frustrated with no catch of fish for the day) to drop his nets again.  I believe rather reluctantly, he did drop his nets again, only to find them overloaded with fish.  He had to drop the net first.  Jesus did not just automatically fill his boat with fish. The blind man had to go wash the mud from his eyes at the water’s edge.  The lame man had to pick up his bed and then walk. Wondering what you could do? Smile. Your smile might just make someone’s day.  Let the person in the grocery line, with fewer items, go ahead of you.  When cars are waiting in line to enter the highway or come out of a driveway, allow them access in front of you.  I know you must be saying, I already do all of these things.  Well, they matter! For us to show God to others, it must be seen IN us.  When exiting the grocery store the other day, a woman entering stopped in the doorway to say, “I just love your hair, what a nice cut!” I did not know her, but will tell you, I thanked her, smiled, and had a new lift in my step.  We hear about “acts of kindness,” they matter!

Seriously, what can you do to make our lives on earth more like God planned?  Be nice.  Be kind.  Make the extra effort. Tell others about Jesus and how He guides your own life. Donate food items or meals to the homeless outreach programs.  Give of your time and talents to the benefit of others. The opportunities are everywhere.  The need is real and God wants us to make Him the center of our lives by sharing the good news to others.
