A descriptor of myself, I am sensitive and I know I get my feelings hurt easily. The follow-up is do I hold on to the “hurt?” This has been a journey of growing up and learning to “let it go.”
I watch with awe at those who suffered a loss due to someone else i.e. a family member murdered, and in the court room at sentencing they tell the defendant, “I forgive you.” WOW! That involves extreme loss, bitterness, anger, hurt, so much more than my mere hurt feelings and yet…they manage to forgive.
Philippians 3: 13 “ Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.”
Forgiving and giving yourself permission to move on is not easy. A minor dose of hurt feelings or a traumatic misdeed, it simply is not easy to just let it go. As I’ve grown in understanding, I realize you do not have to condone a misdeed, but the importance as explained by Paul to the Christians in Philippi, tells us God wants us to FORGET what lies behind you and with God’s help look ahead.
God loves us unconditionally and wants us to always look to Him for strength and guidance. We are forgiven and so should we forgive others. May you remain aware, checking yourself often, and letting go of hurt, anger and bitterness, forgiving and moving on. Keep your eyes on Christ!
