Memorial Day

We awaken today to thoughts of Memorial Day, of those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.   So many words have been said, so many speeches given, there is little I could add.  Yet one quote struck me this morning.  In the words of John F Kennedy, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”    The prayer that follows expresses this message for us.

I pray that we may be inspired to selfless love, that we may show this love in all that we do and say. We have received selfless, unconditional love from our Lord Jesus.  We are forgiven, accepted, loved – just as we are!  Lord, I pray that we could find it in our hearts to meet others with such love.  Whether they look like us, think like us, worship like us, act like us – each is deserving of our selfless love just as they receive the unconditional love You so freely offer.

We are weak but you are strong.  Help us in our daily struggle.
