Moses and David

I’ve been thinking about the Bible stories of Moses and David, or at least some of the parts where they are crying out to God for help.  Jesus taught us how to pray (the Lord’s Prayer), but that of course, was not meant to be your only form of prayer (though it does cover everything!)

What I find interesting is in English, (the only translations I have read), Moses and David seem to be sometimes pleading, sometimes shouting, sometimes humbling themselves, sometimes thanking, sometimes praising and sometimes whining.  Hm?  Maybe we are as human as they were. All of those adjectives apply to me, for certain.  Sometimes I know I am whining and pleading.  I do try to remember to always be thankful in my prayers and praise His omnipotence, grace and mercy.  I do not ever remember shouting, but I have cried through an entire prayer (more than once). I try to humble myself before God.  What I love is that Psalm 139 reminds us that God knows what we are thinking and going to say before the words are even formed on our lips.  Isn’t that AWE-some?  He knows us so completely, that no matter how we pray,  if we whisper, scream, whine, or praise, HE knows our heart…and LOVES us unconditionally.

As I kneel at the foot of the cross and humble myself before God. I thank Him for hearing my prayers just as He heard Moses and David’s prayers.  No matter how my heart pours out my thanks, praise, needs, worries, troubles, confusion, I am heard and my prayers are answered. God knows our every thought and prayer. Praise Him.  Thank Him, whine and plead, if you must.  He hears you.
