Last week’s blog was one of my favorite original blogs, written during the first month of my entrance into this ministry activity. Writing these blogs has always been both a challenge and a joy. The personal rewards are not found in bells and whistles or big headlines. The rewards are the silent messages that I receive from the Holy Spirit, supporting, encouraging and inspiring me to continue.
That said, I still must come up with a topic for this week. Being in Vermont has always provided a wealth of subjects to write about-finding the wonder and glory of the Creator in every creature and object that I see. Today, I want to elaborate on last week’s six year old observations.
Our “camp” is right on Lake Champlain. It is a truly extraordinary body of water rich in history and legend, one of importance for commerce and development and for me, re-creation. Because of its proximity to the water, I observe the comings and goings of wildlife. Lots of wildlife!
Each year, there is a new family of ducks with the most darling little ducklings waddling along the shore or paddling frantically behind the mother duck. I have tried repeatedly to get a photo of them, but they appear suddenly and silently. As soon as I attempt to move closer to the shore, they scoot rapidly into the water and head for Mom.
Last week, while planting the small garden area off my deck, I looked up and spotted about 40+ Canadian Geese goslings! They are like giants compared to the ducklings. I have never seen them here on my side of the lake at this time of the year. Fall, yes, lots of the adults, but not the babies. These young ones formed a virtual parade down the edge of the lake pecking at the water weeds. They also ran away from me as I approached the water with my camera.
I am filled with a marvelous sense of joy and happiness as I observe and recount these amazing creatures. How great a God to fill the world with such a means of wonder without cost!
When I watch the sunset over the mountains, my soul sings out with praise for God who loves us unconditionally. How can we doubt it? Hold this knowledge close to your heart and be confident that God always has you in the palm of His hand.
