Do you wear braids or have you ever braided someone else’s hair into a braid? Perhaps you have braided yarn or string for a project you have created. You might be a horse owner and have braided its mane or tail. The basic is three strands that you alternately crisscross to create a smooth plait.
One of the fascinating things about a braid is that it can cover many flaws. If there is a shorter length hair or a frizzy hair, it can be woven right into the braid and go virtually unnoticed. Are we not like a braid of hair? With the unconditional love of God, we can be strong in the Lord yet still be flawed and sin. We can ask for and receive forgiveness from God, yet still harbor ill feelings towards others. We can accept help and comfort, yet still be too timid to love others as God loves us. Like a braid, all these parts and parcels of love, strength, forgiveness, peace, comfort, sin, flaws, regrets can be braided together into what we know as LIFE.
The good news revealed in a braid is it is strong. By intertwining the good with the bad, the flawed with the intact, the braid represents the power of strength. With our belief in God, we can weave all the pieces and parts of us into a braid of strength. The sin and the sinner woven with Him providing forgiveness, grace and mercy results in power. Power to overcome. Power to endure. Power to grow. Power to succeed. Power to love.
Instead of waving aimlessly, flowing and blowing like loose hair in the wind, we can choose to include our Lord in our lives and become braided into the strength of Him. God is our source of love and all things good. He is the Master Weaver!
