In the Middle . . .

On our liturgical calendar, we are in the season after Pentecost.  In fact, we’re right smack in the middle.  Half of the Sundays after Pentecost are behind us, half lay ahead.  What does this mean?  Probably nothing, but it did get me thinking.  We are often “in the middle” of our life’s situation.  Sometimes being in the middle feels like falling into a pit.  Whatever our challenge or frustration was, it didn’t seem so bad at first.  But then things went from bad to worse and there we were.  Overwhelmed, we couldn’t see a way out.

There’s a gospel song performed by Isaac Carree that fits this situation.  It’s a long one, and I won’t go on with all the lyrics.  Perhaps the chorus gives an idea of the message.

“No matter what this world brings my way
I’m gonna praise God any way
In the middle of it
In the middle ot it
In the middle ot it”

Praising God is easier when we’re celebrating life’s joys.  It gets tough when we’re down in the pit of despair.  If we can remember that his love for us is unconditional, even when we can’t see it or feel it, perhaps it will help us to raise our hand for his help, to dig deep to praise Him even when we’re “in the middle of it.”

God bless you now, whatever you are “in the middle of.”
