Having grown up a life-long Lutheran, I am very familiar with the desire for coffee at every Lutheran function.  We have it before church, after church, at every church meeting, during church cleaning, maintenance, etc. Some of my fellow Luther Leaguers (some 55 years ago) even got an early start in life by having a pot on during many of our activities and it wasn’t necessarily for the chaperones. I know many of you have heard the jokes about Lutherans and their coffee.

1. You know you’re a Lutheran when you have “coffee” as a line item on your church budget.
2. You know you’re a Lutheran when there’s a fire in your church and the race is on to save the coffee pot.
3. Lutherans drink coffee as if it’s the Third Sacrament.
4. Even if it’s 110 degrees with 98 % humidity, Lutherans will still drink hot coffee.

As with any joke, the humor often comes from the truth behind the words. Most Lutherans do like their coffee. But, here is the real truth using the word COFFEE as a guide.

These words are true and we know this because God gave us His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross so our sins may be forgiven. We are so blessed by His goodness and unconditional love. Thanks be to God and think of this whenever you have you have a cup of coffee.
