What is Perfect?

I’m sure most of us dreamed of what our lives would be like when we “grew up” and in our naivety we thought our lives would be perfect.  We would take the perfect vacation, have the perfect career, marry the perfect spouse and have our dream homes where we would raise our perfect children.  All of these things would happen just as they should in the proper order and we would live happily ever after like in the fairy tales.

As we soon discovered when we grew up, there is no perfect life, no perfect job, no perfect childhood or children, no perfect marriage and no perfect set of people who will always do what we imagined they would in the way we expected.  What a disappointment we experienced and perhaps thought, “This whole grown up thing has been fun, but I have to go now” and return to our dreams of yester year.

We are a fortunate people however and we have the impeccable picture of perfection right in front of us.  What we have is a perfect God who is able to lead us through this imperfect life with unfailing strength, incomparable wisdom and infinite and unconditional love. This isn’t something we dream about that probably won’t happen.  It is a promise given to us when God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins and provide us with the assurance of eternal life.  This “dream” will come true if we truly believe in His word and accept God as our Savior.  Thanks be to God.

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 9:17
