It’s coming this week! Joy’s annual Super Sale! Have you cleaned out your cupboards or closets and pulled out those items that you just do not use anymore? It’s a good feeling to remove a few items. What remains just fits more easily. And who knows? Maybe someone else will enjoy an item that had become just clutter to me.
Now I know this is a devotional blog, not a sale promotion. But, the analogy was just too good to pass up. How about I clean up my life a bit too. Could I clean up my calendar, making room for the activities that are more meaningful in my life? Could I clean up my attitude? If I search for those bits and pieces of jealousy, resentment or worry, could I make room for more love and compassion? Could I recapture some of those wasted moments that I spend watching what’s on TV, whether I’m interested or not; or maybe some of the time I devote to games on my cell phone? I might find available time to contact family and friends, time to make a call, send a text, or even write a note?
In the words of Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” God would like to do this for us, perhaps we just need to make room.
