I have had to go on a “news fast” again. The newscasts are so depressing and the world so out of control, it was keeping me up at night. If that is how it has been upsetting me from the privacy of my own home, I can’t imagine how horrible it has to be for all those who are personally living in the midst of the wars, the gang and drive-by shootings, the hate crimes, the diseases, and natural disasters. Then there are those on the police forces, the first responder teams and medical personnel in hospitals who all deal with the results of this chaos every single day. It seems like we are on a downward spiral to the point of no return. Then I see things like I am about to share with you and I remember there is hope in our world.
My neighbor sent this to me and it made me feel less distressed, if only for a brief time.
Today I witnessed the uncertainty of life and the strength of humanity first hand.
I was on a flight from Colombo to Sydney and a passenger started experiencing some sort of a health issue. The crew sought the assistance of any medical professionals on board. Within minutes, there were passengers and crew trying to help this patient. Apparently, by this time, the passenger had no pulse. The responders did not give up though and kept on with CPR. Sadly, about 90 minutes or so later, the doctors who were on board pronounced the passenger had passed away.
I saw this passenger walking on to the flight with his wife in Colombo. Nine hours later, he was no more. Somebody’s father or grandfather…Who would be coming to the airport to pick him up…Did they have plans to celebrate a reunion?
What I also saw was the spirit of humanity at work. Strangers coming together and fighting to keep death at bay. No one wanted to give up. They kept doing what they could. When all failed, there was not a dry eye around. Shedding tears for a stranger that they hardly knew. There is love and there is still hope!!!!

These words touched me and reminded me that God is with us every step of our lives. He is the hope in this world. Everything happens for a reason. We may not see it now, but sooner or later, God will reveal why He lets things happen. Always remember that His way is better than our ways. His will is beyond our will. We need to put our trust in God and allow Him to carry us through these trying times with His unconditional love. God will give us the strength to preserver through these difficult times and the courage to face the obstacles that come our way. Just ask for His guidance and He will lead you down the right path and the way forward. Thanks be to God.
