T’was the Night Before Christmas

I recently ran across this parody of the poem T’was the Night Before Christmas. It is appropriate for this time of the year and gives us something to think about as we traverse through the holiday season.

Twas the night before Christmas, God glanced over the earth,
He looked to and fro, all over its girth.
They missed it again He said with a sigh,
a heavy heart and a tear in His eye.
I gave them my Son so they could be free,
my greatest gift, to them from me.
They traded me in for a man in red,
a little tree and a horse drawn sled.
How do I save them and make them see,
my love is complete, my grace is free?
How do I help them when all they know
is a talking snowman and a box with a bow?
Maybe next year they will stop and see,
the biggest gift of Christmas, is the little child from me.
Crazy for Christmas – by Tina Sharp

We know this is true.  We see it, we live it and we probably take part in it to some extent.  I know I do. Ultimately however, what we need to do is remember and act upon the real reason of Christmas. God loves us unconditionally and blessed us with the gift of His Son, who came to earth as a baby and lived His life to give us eternal life. How great is that! Thanks be to God!

1 Response to T’was the Night Before Christmas

  1. Here’s one I wrote in October 2018!

Twas the night before Halloween and I had such a fright,

I witnessed my mess and considered my plight.

I just settled down with my sins on my chest,

If I didn’t confess them, there would be no rest.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I jumped from my bed to see what was the matter.

And what to my wondering eyes did I see?

But Jesus my Lord who died to save me!

The sight of Him made me giddy with joy,

I knew right then that this was no ploy.

With a wink of His eye, and a nod of His head,

Soon gave me hope, there was nothing to dread.

He went at my sins, all bunched in a ball,

and said “dash away, dash away, dash away all.”

He then spoke not word but went right to His work

and vanquished the devil, who’s a bit of a jerk.

And laying His finger aside of His nose,

“Your fresh and clean soul I have now exposed.”

Up to heaven He rose in the clouds with no flaw,

while I fell to my knees and worshiped in awe.
