You might have read and learned about Genesis, the 28th Chapter, it tells the story of Jacob and his ladder dream. I remember youth group camping, sitting around the campfire singing. Jacob’s Ladder seemed to always be a favorite (of course Kum Ba Yah and Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore were always sung, too). Isaac was Jacob’s father and he bestowed a blessing on Jacob. Jacob’s brother, Esau, not too happy with this blessing, planned Jacob’s demise. Rebekkah, their mother, sent Jacob away to save his life. On his journey, he stopped for the night to sleep. In his dream, he saw a ladder going up toward heaven and angels were ascending and descending. “…He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.
Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the LORD will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”
I’ve not experienced a vision or dream like Jacob’s, but in the words of the song, Jacob’s Ladder, it states “We are climbing higher, higher…soldiers of the cross.” Put on your armor of faith and allow yourself to visualize Jacob’s ladder vision. Angels coming down to help you and also leading the way to God who has unconditional love for you. How blessed was Jacob! Be blessed by your own visions of God’s grace and goodness.
