For a plethora of years, scientists have aided theologians with their efforts to “prove” phenomena in the Bible. I, personally, find their efforts interesting, though do not need their answers to solidify my beliefs. Ah, faith, how I love thee!
Anyway, The Star of Bethlehem, has been a query that resurrects itself often…exactly what led the Wise Men to see the infant Jesus? Was it indeed a star, was it a conjunction of planets? I don’t need the scientific answer, but simply believe the Wise Men were led. Epiphany is when we recognize the visitors who came to welcome Jesus and believed they were indeed seeing their Messiah. They showered Mary and Joseph with gold, frankincense and myrrh, for Jesus. Each of those gifts held specific importance. The Book of Matthew records their journey and arrival, but who were they? The Magi, the Wise Men from the East. There are historians that believed them to be astrologists of their time in history. Astrology and the wonders of the night sky were of great interest to those of this period.
What I know in my heart, is Jesus was born of a Virgin, in Bethlehem and He came to deliver us. God sent His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have everlasting life. The additions to the story of shepherds and Wise Men, are fascinating, but for me The Star shines on our dear Savior and Lord. Epiphany, according to Wikipedia: An epiphany is an experience of a sudden and striking realization. Generally, the term is used to describe a scientific breakthrough or a religious or philosophical discover.
Welcome sweet Jesus! Thank you for your unconditional love.
