A Note or Two

As an infant, I was baptized on a Palm Sunday, and according to those in attendance, I was “singing,” not crying but singing.  A choir member approached my parents after the baptism and remarked she was sure I would sing in the choir someday.  Yep….I do, since I was ten years old, I have sung in church choir.

James 5:13 “Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. “Colossians 3:16 “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly…singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.” There are also many references in Psalms regarding singing praises.

The Bible never states that only those with perfect pitch should sing, or only those with musicality, or only those who can “read” music.  No, God’s Holy Word just commands us to sing. You choose the song, the place, the tempo, and SING. There are numerous benefits from singing: it can help reduce stress and allow you to relax, singing can enhance your lung function, boost your confidence, and even improve your memory and so much more.  Do you have to sing in front of others? No.  Do you have to join a choral group? No. Absolutely you could do those, but you can just open your mouth and sing from your heart.  God is listening and loves you so unconditionally, the notes don’t have to be perfect, or in tune.  Sing His praises.  Free up your voice to connect with your heart and just sing to Him.  Fill your sound with thanksgiving and praise.  It can be something familiar to you or just a tune you create with your heart.

        My spirit is humming already.
