Old Friends

There’s something about old friends that is so restoring.  No matter what the lapse of time, when you get together you feel that same old closeness.  You have years of history together.  You know the life journey that has brought them to where they are today.  No need to impress each other, just relax and enjoy the friendship.

Consider this quote from Donald W. McCullough in his book, Mastering Personal Growth.  “When we consider the blessings of God – the gifts that add beauty and joy to our lives, that enable us to keep going through stretches of boredom and even suffering – friendship is very near the top.”

One of the most loving acts in life is sticking by a friend no matter what.  This quote from Proverbs says it beautifully.   “There are friends who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”  Proverbs 18:24

Jesus understood friendship.  He spent time with his friends.  He walked alongside them, shared meals with them, and enjoyed their fellowship.  He was present for them   Reading from Luke 10:38 – “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.” (NIV)

Cherish your friends:  the old friends whom you appreciate, and the new friends who brighten your day.  Nurture each friendship – today’s new friend may become tomorrow’s old friend.  Let the love of Jesus flow into all your friendships, remember he loves you unconditionally.

Very heartwarming. One must treasure all friendships. They are bright spots on the road of life. Thank you for reminding me of it. I think I’ll call a friend.
