Truly! We ARE God’s handiwork! How wonderful! How thrilling! How life-changing! What responsibilities are expected with this knowledge?
This verse from Ephesians 2:10, goes on to explain that we were “created in Christ Jesus to do good works;” works that “God prepared in advance for us to do.” In verses 1-9 of this chapter, Paul explains to the Ephesians that it is the freely given gift of grace that saves us from the deadness of sin, not the good works that we perform.
Yet in vs.10, he tells us that we were specially made by God and created in Jesus to do good works that have already been prepared for us. Hmmmm, what does this mean? My amateur interpretation and a little research tells me that the performance of good works demonstrates that we are followers of Christ. It is valid evidence that we are walking in Christ’s footsteps.
Because we love God, we want to please God. We want to show Him we are excited to be His “handiwork” and anxious to bring His unconditional love to others. This morning, Pastor Art preached on this holy passage. He mentioned something as simple as being kind to one another as a demonstration of God’s love and a performance of good works.
A smile, a wave, an encouraging word, these are all simple and easy examples of good works that please God and show the world that Christians value the gift of salvation through grace that our Lord and Savior bought for us on the cross.
Oh, and always remember that God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit love YOU unconditionally!
