Easter Monday

The White House Lawn will be alive today for the Annual Easter Egg Roll.  Invitations were sent for children to participate in this annual event that traces its history back about 100 years.

You and I can celebrate Easter Monday, even without an invitation to the Egg Roll.  The Alleluias of Easter did not cease with sunset last night.  Today we continue our celebration of Holy Week.  We began with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.  On Easter morning we rejoiced that Jesus had risen from the dead.  And today, on Easter Monday, the eighth day, we see how Jesus, now risen from the dead, appears to his friends and disciples.  How he encourages them, teaches them, and tells them to be his witnesses.

Now that’s a message we don’t want to miss.  After Holy Week’s observance of “what Jesus did,” now we turn to what he would have us do.   In Mark 16:15,” Jesus appears to the eleven disciples and instructs them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.”  We refer to this passage as the Great Commissioning of the disciples.  The words are no less pertinent to us.  May we also go into our whole world, sharing the good news of Jesus.  What better news could we share, than his unconditional love reaching out to each and every one of us.

I hope you enjoy the song that follows, “I Am a Witness.”
