What are you watching on your social media feed? Is it something like a darling toddler dancing to a song, a kitten or a puppy doing something cute or a young man proposing to his future bride? We can enjoy those posts and they can bring pleasure to our day.
On the other hand, too much time on social media can be a cause for fear, anxiety and even anger, three things that aren’t helpful for our emotional and physical health. I have talked about my need to take a break from the news every now and then. Detoxing my mind from the negativity of which there is never a shortage is necessary for my mental helath. I want to get rid of the old and make room for the new. It allows me to think of doing new things like reading a book of which I have an interest, make a new craft or chat with an old friend or even make a new one if the opportunity arises.
Our Easter celebration is over for another year. We all are aware that Easter is not a celebration of bunnies, colored eggs and jelly beans as our secular world leads us to believe, but of new life…an opportunity for a new beginning. We know this because God raised his son Jesus from the dead. Because of that new life, we are made new.
In Paul’s letter to the church of Corinth he gleefully shares this message. Therefore, if anyone is of Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone and the new is here. 2nd Corinthians 5:17.
When we release the old and welcome the new life God gave us through His unconditional love, we can look forward to a wonderful joy… the promise of eternal life. Thanks be to God!
