Let’s check your financial reports. What are your personal assets? Coming from a middle-class family, I never went hungry, always had a home to live in, a family that I loved and loved me, no television until I was 5 years old, no family car until I was 8 years old, but we were rich. Because there was no car, walking with my mother to the grocery store and back or with my family to church every Sunday, or to school during the week was just the norm, but we were rich. Later in life, when my young husband was dying and our income was zero and household bills and medical bills were stacking up on the table, I was rich.
Matthew, Mark and Luke all wrote about Jesus telling them, …”it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” As I understand this, Jesus is talking about the folks who NEED to acquire “things” and money, and property. Accumulating wealth to the point that they may then find it extremely difficult to separate themselves from their wealth, position and “stuff”. Greed.
I have family and friends and am able to see the sun rise and set every day. I am surrounded by those who share my beliefs in our God who loves us all unconditionally; I am rich. I know I am rich in Christ and that equates to a bounty of blessings worthy of the front page of FORBES magazine.
Just how rich are you? Reevaluate your assets. Recognize the wealth you have living within you and consider it a treasure and true gift. The Holy Spirit lives within you. You are blessed. You are rich in a wonderful way, not a greedy way! Share your wealth of unconditional love and God’s goodness.
