An Ear Worm

Ever had that happen to you? Hear a song and it stays in your head for days. If it is a particularly annoying song with words that are offensive or nasty, that can be downright miserable.

However, I have found with great reliability, the words and the melody of Sunday’s choir anthem are usually with me for most of the week. What a great comfort those hymns are to me.

This week, “I’ll Keep My Eyes on the Cross” (Words and music by Kenn Mann) is gently reminding me of the love, consolation and strength that can be found by turning my life and my will over to the care and protection of my loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The anthem starts out with the phrase, “This world tries to distract me from the things that I must do…” And goes on to point out that when hope is lost, I must keep my eyes on Christ and His sacrifice of love. Because, that is why God sent His Son, to keep hope alive in our lives.

It ends with a rousing encouraging chorus, “I’ll keep my eyes on you!”  That focus, sincere and dedicated to Christ, will not be ignored by our God. He wants us to be in touch always – constant contact – asking and petitioning Him for assistance.  It is the way we were created to function, not alone, but as a team with our eyes on the Great Manager.

Yes, yes, yes, this is the God who loves you unconditionally. Trust in Him and love Him in return.
