Nobody enjoys being lied to. And yet we hear them all the time – from the news media, in courtrooms, even from trusted friends and partners. The truth hurts, but we’re all dying for it. This was clearly shown by the disciples and first followers of Jesus. Why would they be willing to die for something (someone) who wasn’t true? The answer is obvious: they wouldn’t! An indescribable power transformed them. God raised Jesus from the dead – fact. Any historical, logical, empirical evidence, any means of research and explaining confirms it.
No one should believe for a second that it is all an elaborate hoax. The most supernatural and mysterious truth is ultimately the ONLY truth. Maybe that’s why we can keep such an even keel above the storm waters around us. We were created to be holy and to know the truth that frees us. It is profoundly sad to live a life that discounts or discredits God and His Son Jesus. We will all die for the truth, the hope that is in us. Why is this not more remarkable to people than it is? Why does it seem so hard to lead people to this amazing truth, to the place and people (church) where we hear about it? We have a duty, a moral obligation, to show others the light of truth, the truth that sets us free from the lies of Satan. I hope I’m not too stoically Lutheran to do that! Each of us in our own way, with one person at a time, can be a difference maker. The Holy Spirit is already blazing that trail for us. The unconditional love of God will strengthen us and keep us in His grace.
