I Have Not Mastered “Thanks”

Tra-la-la…skipping through the sunshine of the good life…”Oh, thank you Lord!” for all that I can do and my thanks are genuine and heartfelt.

Horrific accident, injuries, death of family members, pending surgeries, earthquake, World epidemic, betrayals, war, financial loss, murder, ….. don’t forget to give thanks.  Therein lies my struggle.

It is so easy when life is going along swimmingly and thanks pours from your heart.  How in the world do you thank our Lord for the “rotten” times? What I am learning is to give thanks at ALL times and the effort brings me that much closer to my Heavenly Father. Of course, He is always there, but do I allow Him in only when life is tossing rose buds my way? Indeed, He will draw ever closer with each “thank you” and “praise” that you extend. NOT “thank you” that my loved one just died, or “thank you” that my family just had multiple injuries from a horrific car accident, but rather “THANK YOU, Lord” that you are with me and with my loved ones. Thank you that you have the surgeon’s hand. Thank you that you see and know all outcomes. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. Thank you for the gift of comfort. Thank you for those who seek to help and guide. God is an ALL-the-TIME God.  Don’t just thank Him for the flower strewn paths you walk, but thank Him for guiding and leading you through the mud in life’s pathways and never leaving you.
