Do you keep a calendar? Maybe it’s a pocket calendar; it might be a larger wall calendar; mine is on my cell phone. Each day is filled with entries of where I must go, what I need to do, and who is celebrating a birthday. At breakfast I take a look at my day, hoping I’m focusing on the correct date. Then the day begins with its prearranged schedule. I work best with routines.
But sometimes God interrupts. My planner page gets thrown out the window when the power goes off and the oven is not working. Maybe it’s a sick family member who needs unexpected medical care. Sometimes I’m not feeling up to par myself and the day’s full schedule is just too much.
I tend to think that God is intervening in my day. He just may provide an opportunity that I had not foreseen. Then, I need to remind myself to be open to living my life for Him. It can be frustrating and difficult to turn the page of my calendar over to Him. Time to pray for the faith and strength to do so.
A well known him by Frances Ridley Havergal, written in 1874, speaks to this circumstance.
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
This beautiful hymn tells us how to live for Jesus. To me, it’s a very familiar hymn, but it’s always good to take the time to look closely at the text, to “get the message.”
God loves you unconditionally, even when he interrupts your day.
This text has been set to several different melodies. Hope you enjoy this rendition.
