ASCENSION DAY

God is gone up with a merry noyse.
And the Lorde with the sounde of the trompe.
That’s the way Psalm 47:5, the Psalm for Ascension Day, reads in the English translation by Myles Coverdale which preceded the King James Version by more than 75 years. I have long loved the expression “a merry noyse.” Take a dozen seven-year-olds to church and you’ll know what a merry noise is.
Ascension Day is a great festival, even if they don’t have Ascension Day sales at Wal-mart. It is the homecoming of the Son. The One who came to us as a humble child, born in a stable, returns to the Father as King of King and Lord of Lords. He is our King and our Lord. All that he did from birth to death to resurrection to ascension was for our sake. That’s a marvel. Celebrate! Rejoice! Make a merry noyse!  Christ is risen. Christ is risen indeed.
Read Acts 1:1-12, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally.
