Waiting is something we all know about. We wait in the doctor’s office, in the supermarket line, at the traffic light. We’re put on hold when we’re making a phone call. We wait for sleep in the wee hours of a restless night. Sometimes we even have to “wait on God”. We’re praying and praying, and we’re not sure God is even hearing us. Do we like to wait? For most of us the answer is NO!
Waiting is nothing new. The people of Israel waited – hundreds of years waiting for the promised Messiah. Many gave up the wait, it was just too long. A faithful few held fast to the promise – picture Anna and Simeon waiting in the temple, prepared to hear the good news.
Mary waited. She heard the angel’s announcement that she would bear a son. But, like every other mother, she had to wait through the months of pregnancy.
Advent is all about waiting – waiting for the coming of our Savior at Christmas, waiting to celebrate His birth. Let’s use this time of waiting to be ready to welcome Him. Open the eyes of your heart, to truly see your Lord. Read Psalm 130:5-6 and remember God loves you. He loves you unconditionally.
“Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see you
I want to see you.”
Michael W. Smith Lyrics
