What is lightning? It is a tremendous burst of energy created in the clouds and striking earth instantaneously at speeds incomprehensible to the human mind. It can be extremely dangerous, killing people on the ground, starting fires, burning thousands of acres of forest every year.

Nature abounds with uncontrollable events like lightning and earthquakes. Even scientists with all their knowledge can’t figure out where lightning will strike or when an earthquake will happen.

When our God created this world He started from absolutely nothing and brought forth vast seas, dry land, great sea life, all living creatures, and seed bearing fruit. Then finally He created man and woman to rule over all He saw as good. He has unfathomable power. He is sooo powerful that just by His Word He created our whole Earth and indeed the Universe. He created time that binds us to a beginning and an end. Yet, God Himself has no beginning and no end.

Knowing the danger lightning poses, we would never stay in an open field during a storm. When an earthquake strikes we definitely would stand in the sturdiest doorway. Yet all of us, Christian or not, constantly disrespect His omnipotence. We act with sinful greed; we stray to dangerous behavior.

As Christians let’s respect HIS POWER. Let’s worship Him as He wants by following His Holy Spirit’s guidance and acting according to His will. And when we fail, let’s turn to Him with humble hearts, asking for the forgiveness which He so readily offers to us.
