War movies are of great interest to me. I grew up watching the old black and white movies like RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP, THE SANDS OF IWO JIMA, THE GUNS OF NAVARONE etc. The training, the leadership, the ethos of command and the battles and outcomes, all pique my interest. Many of these films, I have watched over and over.
WWII, the Vietnam War, and our current war conditions in the Middle East intrigue me and I ponder and sometimes anguish over the returning effects for our soldiers. How do they give dedicated service to their country, fight horrific battles, endure war zone deployment and on their return, will their lives find the “at ease” of normalcy post combat? Many servicemen return with scars, physical and mental.
Do we give our God our full attention? Do we follow His leadership and commands for our life? As we battle through trials and tribulations in our lives, are we scarred physically and / or mentally?
Searching out God’s plan for us, leaning on His word, embracing Jesus and receiving His unconditional love for us, will help us reach our “at ease” peace.
A beloved hymn, Onward Christian Soldiers, speaks volumes.
Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war. With the Cross of Jesus, going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe, Forward into battle, see His banners go.
Our dear Lord, is our commander, and ever present in our lives. Whatever battle presents itself in your life, give Him your full attention, so your life can again find your “at ease” time in repentance, thanksgiving and praise.
