Leftovers

My husband is such a fan of leftovers. When I scoop of sizable portion of spaghetti and meatballs into a squeaky styrofoam box at a restaurant, he’s already salivating about tomorrow’s lunch. When I refrigerate enough chili from tonight’s supper to have for another meal, he’s a happy man.

I never grew up appreciating leftovers.

For me, it was a learned behavior.

Now that I am in the habit of beginning my day with gratitude, I find that leftovers are what sustain me.

Opening my eyes in the morning, I am still savoring the gifts of the day before.

The Holy Spirit fills my soul with reflections of the friendships, the experiences, the healings, the sunsets, the blessings of the day before.

I savor memories of the past. I am energized by God’s leftovers.

I’ve begun to think of leftovers in a new way.

It may be my personal experience of loaves and fishes.
In front of my eyes, the blessings are multiplied.

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8
