Raindrops

It was a typical Florida afternoon rain shower.  The water had puddled near the curb.  Lingering raindrops continued to fall, each creating a circle in the standing water.  I watched with fascination as the rings spread and mingled.   OK, you’re probably wondering if I had nothing better to do, but on that afternoon I was intrigued by the very simple phenomena of a falling raindrop.

Sometimes we share a very simple gift.   It may be a smile or a word of encouragement.  We really don’t know what it means to another person, but like a droplet of rain it may spread into a ring of hope.  It may soak in and be remembered.  At that moment, the receiver may be in dire need, thirsty for reassurance or support.  Don’t ever underestimate the power of a simple word.

“Let my teaching drop as the rain,
My speech distill as the dew,
As the droplets on the fresh grass
And as the showers on the herb.”  Deuteronomy 32:2

Our loving God showers you and me with his limitless and unconditional love.  What can we do?  Offer a raindrop of that love, whenever and wherever the opportunity arises.  It may soak in to quench a thirsty soul.  It may run off, down the drain so to speak.  It’s not ours to know.   It is ours to “be that raindrop.”
