Good News Answers

There are countless sources to go for answers these days. In our younger lives, we had the good ole’ dictionary or set of encyclopedias. If you asked anyone under the age of forty what an encyclopedia was, you would either get a blank stare or something like, “is that like Wikipedia?” Now, we just google it. Or ask Siri or Alexa. When trouble and suffering come to visit, we search for answers. And we want those answers yesterday. We usually neglect or forget the greatest resource ever put together – the Good News in God’s Word. Biblical scholars engage in debate over historical validity and God knows how much time we waste arguing over “correct interpretation”, which is the greatest of all absurdities. I wish that we would simply enjoy and savor the gift of grace that the Holy Bible is rather than analyzing it to death. Like movies that are made just to entertain and help us forget about life for a while; not to be scrutinized for every special effect or technical aspect. Yes, a lot of films are implausible. But God’s Word, even if stories seem implausible or “over the top”, is meant to be the perfect resource for getting through life.

When we want answers to our suffering, Romans 8:28 reminds us that God turns suffering into good.

When we would rather withdraw, I Peter 5:6-7.

When we’re impatient, Hebrews 13:5 (yes, I’m making you work a little…)

When you want to figure it out on your own, Hebrews 10:24-25.

When you’re depressed, I Corinthians 10:13 (there are many others)

When you are tempted or indulgence to offset suffering, Proverbs 3:5-6

Like kindness, manners, and church, the Good News will never go out of style. It is timeless, full of remedies and wonders for whatever ails our souls. Dear blog reader, you know this. I hope you trust it today and every day, along with the unconditional love that is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord. Share this with those who are skeptical because that indicates their willingness to keep seeking the kingdom of God. It is close than we realize.
