Message in a Teacup

I am pleased to share the message of a “guest blogger” today. She is an old friend and her words are written especially for those of us who sometimes feel so overwhelmed in the face of the hatred, discrimination and sickness that surrounds us.

One morning, a surprise gift appeared. A reminder I desperately needed. On the little tag that attaches to my teabag, I found this quote:

“Spread the light; be the lighthouse”

That brought me up short. Not a new concept, for sure, but surprisingly current and appropriate. In my Reiki practice, I always begin by invoking the Divine Light within. We all have that inner spark. It doesn’t matter what your faith base is. When we are centered in our truest selves, we shine our own divinely given light.

Everyone can do this – all of us. It is a simple yet profound practice. We can get up in the morning… Every Single Day …. and decide to shine our light as brightly as we can. It doesn’t seem like much. And yet here’s the strange and wondrous thing. The more we shine our light, the more we inspire and encourage others to shine theirs. Such a simple act. But magnify this by an order of tens or hundreds or thousands of people. Now THAT could make a difference!

It is said, “It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” Yeah, yeah, we know. But what if that really WORKS???? One candle against the darkness is a miracle. Two is better. Ten is even better. Or, how about a LIGHTHOUSE instead of a candle? Two are better. A hundred. A thousand!!!

Think you can’t make a difference in the world? Shine your own candle. Be a lighthouse. You are more powerful than you ever imagined. By all means, take whatever action is possible to change your world. Fight evil and injustice wherever you find it. But in the meantime, forever and always…….

Go forth and SHINE your light!

Kathy
