RIP

Rest in Peace my friend.  We say it to the departed, we engrave it on tombstones.  We offer these words, especially when our loved one has not found peace in this world.

For some, the pain becomes so severe that it can’t be endured.  I recently experienced the tragic loss of an extended family member who failed in his 40 year struggle with addiction.   The anguish became more than he could bear; he took his own life.  Rest in peace my friend, rest in the peace which you could not find in this world.

I hope and pray that you never reach that state of hopelessness.  I hope that you find peace in the love of God.  As the Apostle Paul said to the Philippians, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”   Philippians 4:7

“Places in my heart
Are torn apart
But in my brokeness, I find
That something stays behind
That will not change

The peace that passes understanding
Is a blessing that will never fade away
The peace that passes understanding
Is here to stay
The peace that passes understanding
Never passes away.”     Wayne Watson

Our God comes to you with a peace that the world cannot give; a peace that flows with his unconditional love for you.
