The Advent candle yesterday was pink, the color of the joy and happiness we’ll experience when Jesus comes again. Oh, what a day that will be! Robed in all his glory, we’ll see him face to face. We’ll see our loved ones again; love will be everywhere.
But until that day comes, we know sadness, we feel the loss of those dear to us. Our tears flow for our grief is real.
I heard a song recently that expressed this so well. It was written by a young woman named Jenn Bostic. Her father died when she was only ten. She was numb with grief, just praying that her dad would walk back through that door once more. Music helped her through her sorrow. Picturing her loving dad as another angel around God’s throne, she composed the song “Just jealous of the angels.”
“Your love lives on inside of me
And I will hold on tight
It’s not my place to question
Only God knows why
I’m just jealous of the angels
Around the throne tonight” *
This recoding is sung by Katherine Jenkins with the beautiful children of the Grief Encounter Children’s Choir, featuring fourteen bereaved children. If you’re suffering a loss today, their voices may speak to you.
