IN these shortened times of daylight, I thought this might be appropriate.

Did you know that the space program is busy proving that what has been called “myth” in the Bible is true?

Astronauts and space scientists in Green Belt, MD were checking out where the positions of the sun, moon, and planets would be 100 years and 1,000 years from now. They ran multiple computer models going back centuries, then the system came to a halt. The computer put up a red signal, which meant that there was something wrong with either the information fed into it or with the results compared to the standards. They called in the service department to check it out.

“What’s wrong?”

They found a day missing in space in elapsed time. No answer or explanation could be found. Finally, a Christian man on the team said, “You know, I remember this time in Sunday School when the teacher talked about the earth standing still.”

The other members of the team shrugged their shoulders. “Show us.”

He opened a Bible to Joshua where they found a pretty ridiculous verse for anyone with “common sense”. Joshua, surrounded by the enemy, knew that if it got dark, he would be overpowered. So Joshua asked the Lord to make the earth stand still! Chapter 10, verses 12-13: “The sun stood still and the moon stayed and lasted not to go down about a whole day.”

The astronauts and scientists had found their missing day!

They checked the computers going back into the time it was written and found it was close – but not close enough. The elapsed time that was missing back in Joshua’s day  was 23 hours and 20 minutes. Not a whole day.

If they couldn’t account for 40 minutes, there would be trouble 1,000 years from now. The Christian employee thought further and remembered somewhere in the Bible where it said the sun went BACKWARDS. The others said he was out of his mind; but they turned to 2 Kings that related how Hezekiah, on his deathbed, was visited by Isaiah who told him that he was not going to die. Hezekiah asked for a sign as proof. Isaiah said, “do you want the sun to go ahead ten degrees?” Hezekiah replied, “it is nothing for the sun to go ahead ten degrees, but let the shadow return BACKWARD ten degrees. Isaiah spoke to the Lord, and the Lord brought the shadow ten degrees BACKWARD!

Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes.
