God Never Says “No”

The above might elicit the “yeah, sure” emoji.

I recall the past, present and (likely) future sage wisdom of my father.

“God never says ‘no’. It’s yes, not now, or ‘I’ve got something better in mind’”.

Easier said than believed 100%  of the time.

We believe, perhaps, that if we ask for the right thing, how could God possibly deny our request?

The flaw is that we automatically assume God thinks as we do.

We forget that God is all wise, all knowing.

Smarter than me, which is a good thing.

God teaches us patience. That’s the “not now.”

          God’s timing is perfect.

How can we begin to comprehend what may be the unseen, unimagined “better something”?

Isn’t it a huge delight to our soul when that something is revealed?

Those are the “God-winks”.

Right now my wife Debbie and me are attempting to purchase the house we’ve been renting for the past two years. We have never made it this far into the home buying process. Too many moves, insufficient debt-credit ratio, another buyer swooping in with a better offer and cash in hand to steal the “house of our dreams” – TWICE. We are in “no man’s land” presently, waiting out the underwriting phase. Sleepless nights, shortness of breath as we have checked off the to-do items. In all honesty, we have had enough of the “not yet” answer from the Lord. When is it our time? Do we deserve this, or not? We can’t really afford the dream house. This is simply a case of the owner not wanting to renew the lease, and us really not wanting to move again.

We all have those times of trying to trust in God’s answer to our situation. All we have to do is ask. In our human frailty, we might find ourselves in “yeah, sure” territory. “No” is a word we should eliminate, especially in our relationship with the Lord. How can we doubt his underlying, unconditional love behind the “not yets” and “something betters”, which may not be as frequent as His “Yes” to us.
