Growing up our only family vacation was a 6-hour drive on the Ohio/Pennsylvania Turnpikes to my grandmother’s home in the hilly, mountain country side. My dad was always working, so trips and getaways did not happen often. Some of my most favorite memories are of those trips.
Fast forward and as an adult I had the opportunity in Palm Springs, California (it was 113o ) to take a tram to the top of Mt. San Jacinto, 8,516 feet high. The views from the mountain top overlooked Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. (It also was 30ocooler at the top.)
These mountain-top experiences are embedded in my good memory mind-file. The photos still flash through my mind followed by smiles.
The Bible tells us Abraham was directed to Mount Moriah for the sacrificing of Isaac. Jacob’s ladder vision was also at Mount Moriah. Mountain experiences leave lasting impressions. They can be life-changing. However, God does not have to direct you to a mountain to make His unconditional love known to you. He is always with you and will never leave you, from the mountains to the seas or just sitting on your own front porch. Quiet your mind, be still, know that He is God. As you accept His mercy and grace and understand the sacrifice He made of His Son, you, too, will have a mountain-top experience. A Jesus-filled life is full of love, wonder and awe and will far surpass a tram ride or hike to any mountain-top.
