Getting Ready

I do love to walk, but am rather picky in that I prefer a pleasant breeze and cooler temperatures.  Sweating with temps in the 80’s and 90’s is not my favorite walking scenario. Ok, so getting ready is a routine of getting my feet ready, lotion and a nice quick massage. Next are the great walking shoes. Depending on the weather the walking pants are long or knee length, but definitely comfy with pockets.  Long sleeve t-shirt or short sleeve, again, weather directs this choice. Lip protector on. Face lotion on. Ear buds in. Praise and traditional hymns begin. Sunglasses on. Dog treats in right pocket and phone in left pocket. Dog treats are of course for my four-legged friends I meet along the walk.

Does this much effort go into my time with Jesus? Romans 5:6-8 “Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.”

Doesn’t this verse just say it all? We are loved unconditionally and He does not wait for us to get ready.  I love this reminder. I can have my priorities out of sync, or my mind caught up in “stuff,” but my Lord loves me and that will not change…. ever! I will put my attention on Jesus, like I do my prep for walking.  The joy will be everlasting. Thank you, Jesus, for loving me.
