Where Are Your Shoes?

I recently read a story about Denzel Washington.  Apparently, he once spoke to a group of young actors, suggesting that they put their shoes way under their beds at night.  Why?  So they “gotta get on their knees in the morning.”

Developing regular habits of prayer sometimes takes creative planning.  Now I’m not suggesting that all of us toss our shoes under our beds at night.  I for one would have difficulty both getting down there and getting up again.  But the message is still clear.  Make prayer a habit every morning.

Consistency with prayer is not just a mechanical habit, it’s a way to intentionally navigate our day.  It’s a chat with Father God.  He’s already listening.  It’s time for us to humbly speak our requests, to give our thanks for his consistent goodness, and to open our hearts to love, gentleness and patience.  Persistent prayer brings peace  . . . now that’s a mighty fine outcome for tossing those shoes under the bed!

The Scriptures affirm, in Philippians 4:6-7:“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

God loves you unconditionally.  His peace is yours, just ask.
